Popeye Smoothie

Oh, it has been a while since my last post… almost 4 months of gathering recipes here and there and enjoying the summer because before we can realize it winter is stepping in.

So, during these few months I had been in and out and trying different exercise programs, the last one has been hard and it’s taking time to really get into it, adding up that days are just beautiful and all I want is go for a run, bike ride or simply walk or rest under the sun. I have also been practicing some meditation and kundalini ( I’m totally new, but this is helpful no only to sleep, relax, reconnect to our inner self but also to go through hard times), tried binaural beats and healing meditations to alternatively treat a benign tumor and this last thing is why I have been digging into raw fruits an veggies as well as curcuma, ginger, cayenne and an homeopathic treatment to see if it shrinks while waiting for the next monitoring.

Speaking about today’s… spinach!!! ohh yeah… spinach!
We have tons growing in our garden, so we pick a bunch of leaves and they keep growing leaving us with no choice but to use them in one of the best smoothies we’ve ever tried, not mentioning the combo of properties included in these green little leaves.
the list is long but it’s worth to mention that their properties include anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory, provides iron, proteins, vitamins, minerals, lowers blood pressure, bone health and it’S good for hair and skin, so only with spinach you have one of the healthiest foods right in your blender, now adding to this some banana and citrus will give you Popeye strength to start a day with energy.

The workout for today was 8km run, taking my time, enjoying the view, the blue sky, the different greens blending in the mountains, the sun warming up my skin while the air was refreshing my lungs and listening some music; took me 55min to come back home with a nice tan.

Ingredients:

1 lime (peeled and quartered)
1 lemon (peeled and quartered)
2 bananas (preferably very ripe and frozen, if not add some ice)
1 1/2 or 2 oranges (only the juice)
1 cup of spinach
*water if necessary, depending on the desired consistency

Instructions:
Combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Ginger Pineapple Smoothie

I’ve realized spring is late this year but the spirit of spring is still in my heart!! So,I have been trying some tropical recipes to fight the winter blues and keep the workouts flowing even with the cold and grey days. In my tropical list the first place belongs to PINEAPPLE then bananas, coconut milk, coconut flakes, ginger, mangoes, and greens such as spinach and kale (for smoothies).

In an attempt to avoid catching a cold I decided to add more ginger to our daily juices/smoothies and I found the perfect recipe for it, before I will share some tips to get rid of those ugly colds:

TIP 1 : Drink green tea and lots of water

TIP 2: Drink a cup of water with 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar every 3 hours ( to keep your ph alkaline)

TIP3: Morning booster! Hot water with honey, lemon and grated ginger. ( I also like to add some cayenne pepper! )

TIP 4: Hot bath (keep yourself hydrated before, during and after the bath)

TIP 5 : Get some miso and  add some ginger and lemon, if your nose is blocked and you like spicy taste add some sriracha!

OK! Now lets go to the main recipe…

INGREDIENTS:

1  1/2 Diced fresh pineapple (can be frozen)

1 Banana

1 tbsp. grated fresh ginger

1 cup almond milk (or coconut milk, I like to put half & half)

Sweet Potato & Pineapple Juice

“The easier it is to clean your juicer, the more you will use it” Wise words and something to take into consideration before buying one, I remember my mother’s juicer was worst than a jigsaw puzzle and she doesn’t use it often for the same reason; with our omega  we have big plastic pieces that are easy to clean and assemble, the next step to consider is buying a nice hand cream to use  after washing the produce and cleaning the juicer.

Winter is here and workouts shouldn’t stop, specially before all those holiday suppers and get-togethers. I was supposed to do a 600 side step ups but I gave up at 400, so today I want to make it up and here’s how:

300 reps: 60 drop down star lift+jump up, 60 lunges, 60 pike press, 60 side crunches (30 per side), 60 breakdance  push up + knee

The last exercise was killer, I had to to the knee assisted push ups, but I finished it after 39 min 19 secs. I’m not an expert I just like to enjoy the rush and the challenge, I play some loud music and enjoy the sweat.

Ingredients

  • 2 sweet potato, peeled
  • 2 large carrot, peeled and end removed
  • 1/2   pineapple, peeled
  • 1  inch  ginger root, peeled

Instructions

  1. Juice all ingredients.

Mean Green

Health booster that provides you with fiber, chlorophyll and antioxidants. This recipe is the perfect example of the 80% vegetables – 20% fruit  balance, tasty and refreshing, specially if we combine it with a morning sunbath and deep breaths. Sometimes I add an extra beet for sweetness or a slice of pineapple.  Drinking green juices can also help detox due to the chlorophyll!

Finally, after many cloudy days we had some sunlight, it was windy but still enjoyable under the sun. I rushed to wash all the vegetables and juice them so I could go outdoors and get some sun while drinking my mean green and play with Pirate (our dog).

Now, one hour later sunset is taking the light away, and that’s why during winter I prefer doing my workouts in the morning, afternoon workout feels like I’m training in the middle of the night, I guess as the winter days go by I will get used to the short days. Right now it’s time to make a fire to keep the house warm.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cucumber
  • 4 celery ribs
  • 2 apples, cored
  • 8 kale leaves
  • 1/2 lemon (rind removed)
  • 1 inch fresh ginger (peeled)

Directions:

1  Wash all ingredients thoroughly                                                                                                                                                                                                         2  Run through juicer
